A hex nut with slots cut in the top of it to be used with a cotter pin to prevent loosening.
Castle Nut: A common type of slotted nut. The slotted part of this nut is tapered down. They are interchangeable with standard slotted nuts.
Installation: Spin nut onto the mating part until the slots on the nut matches up to the drilled hole (there must be a hole drilled through the threads of the mating part). A cotter pin is then inserted through the slots and hole, preventing the nut from loosening.
